Masking SMS
Masking SMS in Bangladesh: your brand name as the sender
With a masking sender ID, customers see "MyShop" instead of a phone number. Here is what masking SMS is, which documents you need, and how approval works.
What is masking SMS?
A masking SMS shows a name of up to 11 characters as the sender, such as your shop or company name. Customers recognise you before they open the message, which builds trust for order updates and OTPs. Each name must be approved by the mobile operators before it can be used, and masking messages always travel on the route where the name is approved.
Masking vs non-masking SMS
| Masking | Non-masking | |
|---|---|---|
| Sender shows as | Your brand, e.g. MyShop | A phone number |
| Approval needed | Yes, once per name | No, ready after sign-up |
| If a route fails | Retried on the approved route | Fails over to another route |
| Best for | Brand trust: OTPs, orders, promotions | Fast start and lowest price |
Documents you need
Operators approve a sender name for a business that is entitled to use it. Upload clear scans or photos in the dashboard:
- Trade licence (required)
- TIN certificate
- Authorisation letter on your letterhead, if the name is a brand you own or represent
- A sample of the messages you will send
How approval works
- 1
Request
In the dashboard, enter the sender name (3–11 characters), its purpose and a sample message.
- 2
Document review
Upload your documents. Our team checks them and asks for anything missing.
- 3
Operator approval
We submit the name to the operators on your behalf and follow it up.
- 4
Live
Once approved, the name appears in your sender list. Use it in the dashboard or as sender_id in the API.
Approval time depends on the operators. You can follow every step in your dashboard, and we tell you the reason if a request is rejected.
What masking costs
Masking SMS costs ৳0.45 per part, compared with ৳0.25 for non-masking. Both are paid from the same credit balance.
Indicative prices. Final pricing will be confirmed at launch.
Ask about a masking sender ID
Tell us the name you want and how many SMS you send. We will confirm whether it can be approved and what you need.
Masking SMS questions
How long can a masking sender name be?
Between 3 and 11 characters. Letters and numbers work best; operators may reject names that look like another company's brand or a generic word.
Can I use masking SMS for promotions?
Yes, as long as the recipients agreed to hear from you and you follow Bangladesh's rules for promotional SMS. Customers who reply STOP or opt out are removed from your bulk sends.
Can I start sending before my masking name is approved?
Yes. Every account can send non-masking SMS right after verification, so you can integrate and go live while the masking request is in review.
Why don't masking messages fail over to another route?
Operators accept a brand name only on the route where it was approved. If that route has a problem, BitSMS retries on the same route rather than sending your message under a different, unapproved sender.
